I-Cheng Chen
Piano Teacher
I-Cheng Chen began his music studies at the age of five. After he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, Composition and Conducting, he continued his advanced musical training in Vienna, Austria where he studied with renowned Pianist Jorg Demus.
In 1993, he moved to Montreal where he continued his studies and attained a Master’s degree at McGill University. Throughout the years, he has performed in major concert halls and music festivals. His playing is distinguished by the softness of sound and variety of tonal colors. His extraordinary memory (a 300 composition repertoire) and excellent improvisational skills have led him not only as a recitalist but also as a pianist for Classical ballet and Jazz.
I-Cheng is known for his patient and sensitive approach to teaching. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.

Michael Dobko
Piano Teacher
A Vancouver native, Michael Dobko began studying piano at 4 and has since fallen in love with the instrument. Familiar with both classical and contemporary works and composers, Michael seeks to expand students’ musical understanding and develop their pianism, ultimately allowing them to greater express themselves musically. He has taught and aided everyone from absolute beginners to experienced students and peers, and his teaching method focuses on development and awareness of style and technique. Michael is also pursuing a Licentiate diploma in piano performance from Trinity College London.
Joyce Ho
Piano, Voice, Chello, English, & Mandarin Teacher
Taiwanese Mezzo-soprano Joyce Ho began her musical training with piano at the age of 3. After she came to Canada, she began studying cello with Mr. John Doerksen, and a year later she was accepted into the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra through her teenage years and completed the Royal Conservatory of Music in ARCT. At age 17, Joyce then turned to singing and entered the UBC School of Music majored in opera which the one of the most prominent performer training program in North America. Subsequently, she offered a full scholarship to the Vancouver Academy of Music University division.
Joyce debuted with the UBC Opera Ensemble at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts as Filipyevna in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. As a member of the Opera Ensemble, Joyce also performed the Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberlote, Olga Olsen in Weill’s Street Scene, and Amastre in Handel’s Xerxes. She was chosen to sing in masterclasses with international music figures such as Judith Forst, Malcolm Martineau, Stuart Hamilton and Irving Guttmann, and she was also a finalist in the UBC Concerto competition. With the Vancouver Academy of Music opera ensemble, she was featured in scenes from Carmen and Hansel and Gretel. Miss Ho continues and active career in teaching music and the performing arts.
Aquizamin Garcia

During more than 15 years of teaching experience I’ve developed music curricula based on different cultures and music styles. From Rock, Jazz, Pop, to Classical, Tango and Bossa-Nova just to name a few. As a teacher, I’m organized, committed and I take each student as an opportunity to develop individual programs of study.
With more than 20 years of artistic exposure I’ve had the opportunity to perform in cities such as New York, Venice, Monte-Carlo, Cape Town (SA), Auckland (NZ) and Habana among many others. I’ve performed in important venues such as “The Chan Centre” in Vancouver and “Bliblioteca Luis Angel Arango” in Bogotá. As artist I’ve been invited to perform at the Mannes Guitar Semminar in New York, and local events such as the Arts at One concert series at Douglas College, the UBC Alumni Achievement Awards and many concerts sponsored by the Vancouver Health Arts Society.
Playing the guitar has taken me to the most distant and amazing places in the world.Both to real places and places in my own mind.This is precisely why I love to play the guitar:because I can explore a wide variety of music from different cultures, times and places.
Ringo Suen

From the age of 6, I have enjoyed playing the piano and my musical journey has continued ever since. After going through an array of music festivals, I managed to achieve multiple awards and certificates. From there on, I knew piano was not just a skill I had, but rather a passion I had discovered. After graduating with a First Class Honors in the Piano Performer’s ARCT, I decided to continue with piano through the enjoyment of teaching others.
I am interested in sharing my passion for music with students and enjoy teaching in an encouraging and fun atmosphere where children will be taught using creative methods. Well acquainted with the RCM syllabus, your child will be well-prepared for all exams and music festivals. I look to equip students with the performance and theoretical skills that will see them excel no matter what path they take in the music. As an engaged and determined teacher, I thrive to extend my knowledge to my students ensuring that they have learned something valuable at each lesson.
Horace Ma

Kelly has worked with professional orchestras and ensembles across Canada and internationally, and performed in major music festivals across Canada such as Toronto Summer Music, Ottawa Chamberfest, and Biglake Festival. Jessica Kang

With over 20 years of experience teaching piano, flute and music theory to students of all ages, Jessica Kang is a highly professional, dynamic and well-loved music teacher adept at developing lessons that bring out a student’s full potential and creativity. In her teaching, she also brings to bear a thorough knowledge of Alexander Technique, a method for overcoming the unconscious body habits that create tension and impede coordination. This, she has found, not only aids a student in developing a natural and relaxed manner of playing, but is also an invaluable tool for alleviating stress in their daily life. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Ottawa, and has also studied piano with Ronald Turini from the University of Western Ontario.
A devoted teacher who pursues her work with passion and sensitivity, Jessica believes that a good teacher can bring out a student’s positive potential — both for music and for their lives in general.
Oscar Murillo

Oscar Murillo is a Guitar teacher and performer, with 11 years of experience teaching this beautiful instrument.
Studied Music Education in Universidad de Costa Rica, and Editus Academy, with Edin Solis (two Grammy's Award winner) as guitar teacher.
Worked in Costa Rica in the Conservatorio Municipal de Alajuela for 8 years, teaching popular guitar specialized in Latin-American rhythms, giving lessons to all age students in a fun and interactive way, taking them from beginners to advanced players.
Performed in International Folk Festivals in Mexico, Colombia, Panama, and in Government of Costa Rica official events in stages like Costa Rica National Theater and Alajuela Theater.
Rita Hsiung

Ms. Hsiung studied comprehensive piano with Dr. Bruce Vogt in University of Victoria. After graduation with Bachelor Degree in piano performance, she soon started her career in teaching piano as well as flute and harmony. Ms. Hsiung has been teaching music for many years. She shows her enthusiasm in and passionate in teaching both children and adults.
Daisy Kwan

Daisy Kwan is a versatile teacher with over 12 years of experience and she teaches piano to student from age 3 to adult. She received her A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music and holds a B.A from SFU. She is also a graduate of Yamama program and has taught many group classes. Her teaching style is flexible and courses are customized to suit her students’ goal. She plays music instruments for enjoyment. Daisy has a proven track record of helping students achieve high marks during examinations. All students are taught a solid foundation of musicianship skills including rhythm, ear training, musical expression, and music theory. These important transferable skills can be applied to learning to play other instruments and music genres so students can continue to branch out and explore music in their own way.
Gordon Yu

Gordon Yu started playing piano when he was 4 years old. He studied classical piano at UBC under Sara Davis Buechner and Terrance Dawson. He also learned pedagogy from Mark Anderson. Gordon would like to pass his passion of music by teaching more students and he hopes to bring out the best in his students like his many teachers before have brought the best in him! With this goal, after acquiring his ARCT in piano performance, he started his teaching career. His teaching method focuses not only on technique, but also on creativity, as he always tries his best to inspire and motivate his students.
Kelly Zhu
Piano Teacher
Kelly Zhu, a Chinese-Canadian pianist, enjoys performing solo and chamber music as well as teaching the piano. She started piano in China when she was four. At age of twelve, she moved to Vancouver with her family where she studied with Alice Enns, and won top prizes at regional competitions. From 2018 to 2019, she participated in masterclasses at Orford Music Festival, Quebec under renowned pianists and pedagogues John Perry, Anton Nel, Ronan O’Hora, and Benjamin Pasternack. In April 2019, she presented her solo piano recital at George Ignatieff Theatre, Toronto, featuring Bach, Mozart, Liszt, and Muczynski.
Kelly obtains Bachelor of Music in Performance with Honours at the University of Toronto under the guidance of Lydia Wong in 2020. During her study, she participated in university masterclasses taught by David Breitman, Enrico Elisi, Marietta Orlov, and Jamie Parker; at there, she was deeply inspired by professors’ thoughtful musical interpretation. Beside her piano study, Kelly enjoyed volunteering at Rekai Long-Term Care Facility Center in Toronto, and also completed a minor in German studies. She is currently pursuing Artist Diploma at Vancouver Academy of Music under the tutelage of Kum Sing Lee.
Junyi Chen

Teacher Junyi Chen graduated from McGill’s University – piano performance. He started the piano at age 6 and attend Lord Byng mini arts program as a French Horn player. Hee chose piano as his primary instrument and was taught under Prof. Kyoko Hashimoto as well as Prof. Marina Mdivani at Mc Gill’s University. He also attended Peabody Conservatory for a semester under Prof. Benjamin Pasternack.
Doris Chan

Ms. Doris Chan started playing piano at a young age and has completed Royal Conservatory of Music Piano and ABRSM Piano. She enjoys motivating and sharing her love of music with students of all ages and levels in a fun, warm and educational environment. Doris has a great wealth of teaching experience and is very patient to her students. Her teaching philosophy is to cultivate an interest in piano music in every child and bring the best out of their unique talents. She is enthusiastic about continuing her musical career and sharing her knowledge and passion with others.
Grace Jung

Grace’s musical journey began when she started learning violin at the age of 5 in Korea. She then started playing piano 2 years later and immediately fell in love. She continued to pursue her passion even after moving to Canada and achieved the RCM ARCT performer’s diploma with honours. She is currently enrolled in her second year of Bachelor of Music, majoring in piano at UBC. Grace is an experienced piano teacher who taught both group and private lessons at the Rosa Lee music studio.
She wishes to share the joy of music to aspiring musicians.
Terry Guo

Born into a musician family, Terry was first inspired by his father, who is an operatic baritone and voice teacher. Terry began his piano studies at the age of five. At the age of 14, he moved to Vancouver to continue his piano studies with Ms. Rebecca Kelly. Under the tutelage of Ms. Rebecca Kelly, he has appeared and received countless awards and scholarships from various music festivals and competitions: The Student Performer’s Guild, The Kiwanis Music Festival, and Richmond Music Festival. He holds an ARCT Performer’s Diploma in Piano Performance with highest distinction in Summer 2017.
In 2021, Terry graduated from Schulich School of Music, McGill University, where he studies with Professor Sara Laimon. He was also a recipient of the Bruneau Prize, and the Student Excellence Award. In addition to his piano activities, Terry shows his passion in music theory. During his music studies at McGill University, he received outstanding achievements in all of his theory courses.
As an active and inspiring performer, Terry has appeared in many different concert halls in China, North America and Europe. In February 2019, he was giving a solo piano performance at the Theater Maisonneuve at Places-des-Arts, Montreal. As a collaborative pianist, Terry had participated to many summer music festivals in the United States and Germany. He enjoys playing chamber music and art song. Some of the influential music coaches and masterclass teachers include Kyoko Hashimoto, Ronan O’Hara, Matt Haimovitz, and others.
Connie Qin

Corinne started piano at a very young age. Besides western classical music, she also learned Chinese instruments. Corinne enjoys teaching a lot because she loves sharing the enjoyment of music with students. She is very experienced in teaching piano and harmony. She decides to venture into the teaching of group lessons with Music for Young Children and inspiring kids with her love for music through teaching.
